Ellen Hoogendoorn- van Werven is a Lecturer in English Language at the Al Rayyan International University College (ARIU) in partnership with the University of Derby. She develops academic language skills programmes for students in the Introductory Year prior to starting the University of Derby Program.

Ellen holds a master’s degree in English Language and Literature from the University of Utrecht. Her thesis was “Anglicizing products for Export”. She also obtained another master’s degree in Education from the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands. Besides that, she has multiple qualifications from the Queen Rania Institute of Jordania.

Ellen Hoogendoorn started a corporate career in HR and Banking at ING in the Netherlands, where she was responsible for developing the International Management Trainee Post Graduate Program.
Later she moved to the educational sector. She worked in Saudi Arabia at the British International School of Riyadh and after that, in the Netherlands, she was a guest trainer at the Royal Tropical Institute for “cultural awareness programs Middle East”.
After obtaining a master’s degree in Education, she followed her passion and became a full time English Teacher. In the Netherlands she taught pre- university classes at the Vathorst College in Amersfoort.
Moving to Qatar she worked at the International School of London, first as Drama Teacher and subsequently as an English Teacher for the Middle and Diploma Year of the International Baccalaureate program.

Being a mother of four University Students, she has good understanding of the coaching and developmental needs of students in general. She has an engaging teaching style and is passionate about bringing language skills to a higher level.
She is interested in culture and travel.
